Today’s Scripture: Ephesians 6:13-14; James 4:7
James exhorted us to “resist” the devil and he would run (see James 4:7). The word “resist” actually means to unswervingly stand without giving up. Paul indicated the same idea when he said we should “stand our ground; after having done all, stand;” and “stand firm” (see Eph. 6:13-14).
Some people confuse resisting with ignoring. Standing, however, indicates taking an active stance, not a passive one. We face the enemy, dig in our heels, and refuse to budge from what we know is the truth. We don’t run. The devil does.
Too bad Eve didn’t take a stand in the garden. She knew the truth. She just didn’t use it to combat the serpent’s lies. Let’s purpose to not make the same mistake.
- How do you “take a stand” against the enemy? What keeps you from digging in your heels?
- How will your relationship with the Lord be different after this week’s quest?
