Day Seven – Save the change!

Today’s Scripture: Mark 8:25; 2 Corinthians 5:17

The Lord always works with precision and perfection. Not only did He assure that the man’s vision was exact. He sealed the healing with final instructions for the man to not return to the village. Maybe unbelieving people lived in the town and they had too much negative influence on him. Or perhaps Jesus didn’t want him to return to his old way of begging so he could become more independent and responsible.

Jesus takes consulting, counseling, coaching, mentoring—even healing—to a whole new level. He doesn’t simply answer questions, offer advice, or give an assignment and then leave us on our own. The Lord becomes our Ultimate Accountability Partner. First He performs an eye-opening heart change. Then He remains by our side to assure we don’t default back to who and what we were.

Recently I tried to print a document from my computer. When the printer didn’t respond, I went into settings and discovered the computer had reset the default printer to one I used to have. I corrected the default and tried to print again. Nothing. Back to settings. The computer had again defaulted to an old printer. As I corrected the problem a second time, I realized I had skipped one important step. I forgot to save the change.

The work Jesus performs is core-driven, not cosmetic-driven. He wants to change everything about us—the way we see, live, think, act, and speak. Paul said, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old one has gone, the new has come” (2 Cor. 5:17).

Do you need a second touch from the Lord? Ask Him to change your default. And remember to save the change.

  • What do you do when you’re tempted to “return to the village”? How can the Lord become your accountability partner so the change in your life becomes permanent?
  • How will your relationship with the Lord be different after this week’s Quest?
