Today’s Scripture: Genesis 18:23-32, Matthew 10:30
The Lord is more patient than we give Him credit. Don’t ever think He’s not interested in every detail of your life. Jesus told the disciples that the Father even knew how many hairs they had on their heads. He’s not a bottom-line God. He’s into the details.
After the Lord told him what was going to happen to the city of Sodom, Abraham began a very tedious countdown. “What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it?
The Lord assured him that if fifty righteous people could be found, He would spare the city. “If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.” Abraham continued, “What if there are forty-five? . . . Forty? . . . Thirty? . . Twenty? . . . Ten? He answered, “For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.” God patiently listened as Abraham counted down from fifty to ten.
Who stopped at ten? Notice verse 33: “When the Lord finished speaking with Abraham, He left, and Abraham returned home.”
Abraham stayed until God said amen—so be it. And so it was.
- How would your prayer times change if you waited until God said “amen?”
- What details do you tend to leave out when you pray? Be intentional about including them. The Lord is extremely interested.
