Today’s Scripture: 1 Kings 17:13-14
“Go home and do what you said you were going to do.” I’ve heard many challenging sermons in church, and at the conclusion of those sermons, I’ve made many well-intentioned commitments to God. Unfortunately, some of those commitments haven’t made it past the parking lot, let alone all the way home.
The prophet encouraged the widow to go home and follow through with what she said she would do—“I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.” She assumed imminent death. Elijah—The Lord, He is God—knew otherwise.
If we truly desire God to work through us, we must keep our word and “go home and do as we said.” Don’t worry—we won’t die. The Lord, He is God knows the end results.
- What commitment(s) have you made to the Lord that you still haven’t completed? What will it take for you to “go home and do what you said you were going to do?”
- How can you protect yourself from believing the worst so God can perform His best?
